DUTIES: The University System of Maryland (USM) invites applications and nominations for the vacant exempt staff position of Executive Director of Inter-Campus Network Services. As Maryland¿s public system of higher education, the USM provides outstanding educational opportunities, performs groundbreaking basic and applied research, delivers vital services to communities and individuals, and fuels economic and workforce development. The USM comprises 11 degree-granting institutions, two research institutions, and two regional higher education centers. This position is responsible for the management and delivery of inter-campus network services to USM member institutions and affiliate members and, in particular, for developing, enhancing, and creating partnerships regarding next generation networks, within the USM, with Maryland education and research entities, and regionally as well as nationally. The Executive Director will also participate in strategic planning and implementation, as well as provide leadership in the design, procedures, policies, and support of data and voice communication systems in the USM .
QUALIFICATIONS: To effectively deliver these services, the Executive Director will require leadership and team building skills, working collaboratively with IT and strategic leaders within the USM as well as other educational entities in Maryland. The ideal candidate should preferably have an advanced degree in information technology management or computer science and 10 years of progressively responsible experience. In addition, the Executive Director should have in-depth knowledge of wide-area, regional, and national data networks and telecommunications at the technical, operational, and policy levels. The position holder should be able to provide the leadership to make the USM a national leader in higher education statewide networking.
