The University of Maryland, Baltimore is home to nationally ranked programs in medicine, law, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, and social work.

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), the state’s only public health, law, and human services university, enrolls more than 6,300 students in six nationally ranked professional schools—medicine, law, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, and social work—and an interdisciplinary graduate school. UMB confers the majority of professional practice doctoral degrees awarded in Maryland.

UMB is a leading academic health center, combining cutting-edge biomedical research and exceptional clinical care. The university employs and trains the front-line practitioners who secure our citizens’ health, well-being, and fair treatment, locally and globally. Its students, faculty, and staff provide nearly $40 million in uncompensated care to poor and underserved populations each year.

UMB’s 12-acre University of Maryland BioPark is Baltimore’s biggest biotechnology cluster, with dozens of bioscience startups and research institutes fueling the commercialization of new drugs, diagnostics, and devices. The BioPark’s new Maryland Proton Treatment Center is the only facility in the region providing advanced radiation therapy for cancer patients.

Each year, 200-plus companies sponsor research at UMB, bolstering the university’s $500 million research enterprise and working with faculty to bring life-saving medical products to market.
